Construction & The Built Environment

All 16-18 year-old students at City of Westminster College will follow a full-time Study Programme. Here Craig Hanlon-Smith, Deputy Director of 16-18 Programmes explains what that means.

Construction is the creation of the built environment. It is everything around us that is human-made such as houses, roads, sports stadiums and airports.

We offer a range of courses for school leavers looking to begin a career in construction or civil engineering and for employed candidates wishing to upskill.

Our one year BTEC Level 1 Construction & Engineering course allows school leavers the chance to experience a range of craft construction, building services and engineering activities potentially progressing to level 2 programmes in either construction, electrical installation, plumbing or engineering. Full-time 16-18 students take part in work experience visits with major construction businesses like Mace Group Ltd and Bam Nuttall.

In addition to the vocational learning, students are able to develop their literacy, numeracy and employability skills to match the requirements demanded by industry and higher education.

We also have thriving Level 3 BTEC and Level 4 HNC PT day-release programmes for students employed in the construction and building services sectors looking to develop their design capabilities and career development prospects.

All teaching staff have relevant industrial experience.
