The course includes the following six mandatory modules plus two other optional modules:
The BTEC Higher National Certificate provides a solid grounding in construction and the built environment, vendor accredited certification and Professional Body membership, upon which students can build; should they decide to continue their studies beyond the certificate stage.
You will have approximately 400 hours of direct tuition over the two years. As a guide you will need to spend another 800 hours in independent study and completing assignments/projects to achieve the level of attainment necessary for the award of the qualification.
Most assessment evidence is submitted by written coursework and reports. However, some units including Mathematics for Construction have class based tests under controlled conditions.

HNC Civil Engineering
As a guide you will be expected to spend a minimum of 800 hours on independent study and completing coursework over the two years.
Civil Engineering
The course is more likely to benefit applicants already working in the industry, however each candidate will be assessed on previous experience and qualifications including:
Ideally you will be working in the civil engineering industry or related sector and have a full level 3 qualification in a relevant subject.
GCSE English Language (Grade 4 (C) or above)
Ideally a full level 3 qualification. As a minimum you should have GCSE Mathematics (Grade 4 (C) or above) plus evidence of studying and passing mathematics modules as part of a level 3 qualification.
To cover tuition fees, loans are available from the government. You may also get support towards your living costs. The amount you can borrow depends on where you live and your household income. There is also extra support for those with special circumstances, for example, if you have children or adult dependants, a disability, long-term health condition, mental-health condition, or specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia or dyspraxia. Please be aware that unless expressly stated, the cost of your course is for a single year only.
