Course content

The skills you will learn on this course will be useful across a wide range of occupational roles and sectors:

  • Understanding the business of retail
  • Understanding customer service and hospitality
  • Understanding how a business maintains health, safety and security on its premises
  • Understanding the retail selling process
  • Understanding the control, handling and replenishment of stock
  • Understanding how individuals and teams contribute to the effectiveness of a business
  • Employability training including CV writing, interview techniques, assistance with job search

On successful completion of the course, you will receive:

  • Retail, Customer Service and Work Skills Qualifications
  • Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering
  • CIEH First Aid Certificate

As part of the programme you will undertake mock interviews with employers and be screened for employment opportunities – with a guaranteed interview with an employer if a job role becomes available, or a reference and exit interview to give you guidance - this will help you with your future job applications and interviews

You will receive Support and mentoring during the programme and as part of the after care service and you will have access to our free recruitment services to support you into employment.

Functional skills development are embedded within the course programme.

Entry Requirements

What qualifications or skills do I need to show I have before I can enrol?

You need be aged 19 years or over to be eligible for this course. You will also be required to sit an initial assessment and IAG session to determine whether the course is suitable for you. You need to have a Literacy/English level to at least a Level 1 standard – this will be determined in the initial assessment. If you do not meet this level, we may suggest you be referred onto a different course.

You need to be able to provide:

  • Proof of benefits (Job Seekers Allowance)
  • Proof of ID and residency
    • UK Nationals: Passport or Full Birth Certificate + 2 proofs of address (no older than 3 months)
    • EU Nationals: Passport, EU ID Card/Travel Documents or Birth Certificate + 2 proofs of address (no older than 3 months)
    • Non UK/EU Nationals: Passport/ Home Office Documents. 2 proofs of address (no older than 3 months), and proof of residency in the UK/EU for 3 consecutive years.
