For the fifth year running, City of Westminster College Media students were invited to film the Westminster Mile. The project started back in 2013 as an opportunity for students to work on a real creative brief, using the skills and creativity gained through their course in our Creative Media School.

On Sunday, 27^th May, more than 8,000 runners finished the Vitality Westminster Mile in central London making the world’s greatest festival of mile running officially the biggest ever timed mile event in the world. A total of 8,048 runners in 39 waves completed the course and smashed the previous record of 7,664 set at the New York Fifth Avenue Mile last year.

The world record finish was a tribute to Sir Roger Bannister, the most famous mile runner, who died in March this year aged 88, nearly 62 years after breaking the iconic four-minute barrier for the first time.

Creative Industries Lecturer, James Hodges said “The Westminster Mile, provides an excellent opportunity for our learners, to work in an exciting environment at a unique location alongside professional production teams. This high profile event is one of a number of collaborations between the media department at City of Westminster College and Westminster Council. This year students had the opportunity to interview Lord Coe and Tessa Sanderson and filmed Sir Mo Farah running the famous mile.”
