Metropolitan Police visit CWC for Community Engagement Day

Following on from the success of previous Community Engagement days, CWC recently invited the Metropolitan Police back to the College. Students were given the unique opportunity to interact with those involved in various areas of the Police Force.

On Thursday 19th November, members of the ANPR unit, Mounted Police, Territorial Support Group (TSG) and Police Officers attended the event, which included horses as well as classic and modern vehicles. Vintage police cars including an Austin from the 1960s and Rover from the 1980s were parked outside the college, alongside a newer ANPR unit vehicle.

Students were able to sit inside the cars and speak to officers about the current model and the sorts of calls they respond to on a regular basis. The TSG offered students the opportunity to try on protective vests and talked them through the use of specialist equipment used by officers including battering rams, batons and protective clothing including helmets.

"These events are important as they help to build a strong relationship between the college, our students and the police force, so they're able to better understand the different roles within the force and what each one entails," said CWC's Careers Advisor Louise Rochford. "We had an excellent response from students once again, and we also had a large number sign up for the cadets."

The next Police Engagement Day will take place in March at the College's Paddington Green Campus.
