Recently, City of Westminster College’s HND Music Production students hosted two nights of live music at the College’s Sarah Siddons Theatre. The culmination of two years’ work, students were charged with finding bands, with a number of different genres playing over the course of the two nights including a reggae band and a rock and roll band. The artists were then filmed and their audio recorded as part of the students’ final project which involves producing a DVD of the two evenings.
Following the event, the students will take all of the audio from both nights and will spend time mixing it alongside the video footage taken from a number of different cameras placed in the theatre. After syncing both the audio and the footage together, each band will then receive a copy of the DVD and the audio files for free in order to allow them to create their own mixes in the studio.
“The students worked really well together and it all went very smoothly considering they had to work on a number of different components and jump around from one job to another the whole time,” said Joe Clancy, Course Manager and tutor for HND Music Production. “It’s surprising how much bands pay for a basic video and audio recording when they go to venues, and we have fantastic recording facilities, so they really do benefit from taking part in the show.”
