Second year HND students were recently invited to a talk given by Keith Hanlon-Smith, Human Resources Director at the Carbon Trust. Keith spoke to the students about his experiences in Human Resources in a number of organisations, but in particular focused on his previous employer Norland Managed services and his current role at the Carbon Trust. Offering advice, he spoke about the practical human resource experience and the challenges he faced working as part of those two, very different, organisations.
Aileen Revington, a Lecturer in Business and Finance said, “At the moment these second year HND students are studying a Human Resources Management unit and as part of that they will need to choose an organisation and apply what they learn about HR to this example business. In their last task they will have to pair up with a classmate and compare and contrast HR practices and policies in both.”
“Keith’s presentation offered an invaluable insight into human resources in the real world and the students thoroughly enjoyed it and asked a number of questions which enabled them to gain information they can use for their unit.”
