Get a fresh start in 2021! If you’re 16-18 years old, we have free courses for you to kickstart the new year. Take one of our taster courses to get a flavour of what it’s like to study at college. 


The courses are all Level 1 Certificate or Diploma in Vocational Studies and will set you on the right path to your chosen career. Students will get the opportunity to develop their English and Maths skills as part of their chosen career pathway. Students will also be offered the loan of a laptop to complete their studies and a mentor to provide support.


Courses start 1st February 2021. All courses are 20-week qualifications.

Developing knowledge, understanding and skills about the following:

  • Being organised
  • Developing a personal progression plan
  • Carrying out a scientific experiment
  • Making a chemical product
  • Exploring Physics
The qualification gained is a BTEC level 1 Introductory Certificate in Vocational Studies. The progression opportunities are to level 2 courses within the college. Students are able to apply to any subject area at level 2 as a lot of the course is study skills designed to prepare you to study at the next level. Students would be particularly welcome on our BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Science either at Paddington or Willesden.

The course would run on two full days a week and would also have additional English and maths on another day.


Creative Industries


Develop transferable personal and social skills with opportunities to choose optional units which will equip you with the essentials to begin your journey in the creative industries such as:

  • creating a mood board and art image
  • creating an animation
  • shooting a film
  • acting/rehearsing in a performance

The qualification gained is a BTEC level 1 Introductory Certificate in Vocational Studies. Progression can lead to a level 2 in any of the creative industries – Media, Photography, Performing Arts or Art & Design. There are also further progression opportunities to other level 2 courses in the wider college.

The course would run two full days a week with English and maths on another day.


Health, Wellbeing and Care


You will have the opportunity to study core units which will develop your transferable skills. In addition to these units, you will be able to choose optional units in line with the future career goal such as:

  • Hairstyling
  • Communication skills for health and social and care 
  • Exploring travel and tourism
  • Playing a sport.



Our ESOL courses are for people who live and work in the UK and who want to improve their English skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

We will be offering you a re-engagement Skills for Life programme with Vocational taster in ICT. 

Learners will be developing skills in Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing, Functional Skills Maths  and Digital Skills (ICT). They will achieve either an Ascentis Award Entry 1 or Entry 2 depending on their level.

Learners will be able to progress onto the next level of ESOL Study Programme Entry level 2, Entry level 3 or a Vocational course in the college

The course runs for 5 days.

Construction & Engineering

This programme will look at different elements of all construction, engineering and the built environments trades. You will have the opportunity to experience trying different construction and engineering trades within our high tech workshops that will enhance your practical skills and introduce you to the construction industry. You will experience things like:

  • Understanding how a lighting circuit works within a domestic & commercial property
  • Installing a bathroom suite using the plumbing skills developed on the course
  • Use your carpentry skills to develop props for our end of year production
  • Develop your Health and Safety which will assist you on a construction site
  • Help the college community with one of our project based activities around campus.

Information Technology

You will develop transferable personal, organisational, collaboration and study skills required for further study or employment in an IT environment, and study the following optional subjects

  • Developing and using digital technologies
  • Solving IT problems
  • Creating spreadsheets, websites and computer programmes
