City of Westminster College recently welcomed actor, director and lecturer Hamza Jeetooa for an insightful Q&A session with our Level 2 and Level 3 Extended Performing & Production Arts students.
Hamza shared his personal journey into the acting profession, reflecting on his early studies in Performing Arts at college, successfully auditioning for drama school, and training at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama. Students asked thoughtful questions throughout the session, receiving practical advice on auditions, their projects and the process of securing agent representation.
Hamza discussed what it is like to work on set, including highlights from TV shows such as Doctor Who and Luther, giving learners valuable insight into the realities of working in TV and film.
A key theme of the visit was the importance of developing a varied, sustainable portfolio career. Hamza encouraged students to explore different skill sets and opportunities, helping them to build resilience and flexibility as freelance practitioners in the creative industries.
Hamza also offered students a glimpse into actor training at higher education level and the pathways available after college, drawing on his experience as a lecturer in Acting at the London College of Music.
The event provided an inspiring look at professional practice in the creative industries, readying our students for their future careers.
