Exam season well underway at CWC

Students at CWC are currently in the middle of exam season, with a large number taking GCSEs and A-levels over the next few weeks. For many, these will be their final exams before leaving College to continue their education at university or move into the world of work. From post-it notes and revision notes to flash cards and phone apps, students have a varied way of learning and it is important to find the right style of revising for you.

BTEC Extended Diploma in Applied Science student Teodor Kadiyski who is taking GCSE examinations in Maths and English said, “I’m unable to sit down in one place and revise as I work better when I have someone explaining topics to me. The College made username and passwords for an app called Maths Watch which I find really useful as I can revise while I’m on the go. It has been really helpful – if I find I’m lacking in a certain area I can go to the app, find that topic and it explains it to me before giving me a problem to solve which I can then double check with the app.”

A number of useful tips for students taking exams include getting a good night’s sleep and start revising in the morning when your brain is able to better digest information, creating a revision timetable that can be put on a wall to motivate you and also take regular breaks during revision sessions. It is also recommended that students turn off computers and avoid social media while studying in order to remain focused.

“There are a few things that students need to remember for exams; always be on time, make sure you have writing equipment and your College ID, use the time at the start of your exam to plan out your answers based on the time you have and always leave time to go back and check your answers,” said Director for 16-18 Programmes Lyndon Sly. “Take advice from tutors in terms of revision tips, everyone has a different way of studying and it is important for students to look at a number of different ways of revising and find the one that suits them.”
