English for Work is delivered at a number of levels. You will be assessed for your level after you apply.
The course has been designed for unemployed candidates who are unable to speak, read and/or write in English or those with a low level of English who would like to attend intensive classes enabling them to communicate effectively with a variety of people. Classes focus on basic literacy, pronunciation and writing practice, reading simple texts and forms. Students also attend IT sessions where they can learn how to use computers. Employability Skills is a core element of the courses and students will be supported to develop their job searching as well as interview skills. Candidates may also undertake mock interviews with major employers and have the opportunity to be screened for a variety of job roles in key occupational areas.
Students do not take any exams but have personal targets set by themselves and their teachers. Targets are reviewed regularly by their tutors. On completion of the course students are given an in-house certificate. Some individuals may undertake an Entry 1 exam, if appropriate.
Students receive excellent pastoral support, with access to qualified Advice and Guidance workers, and are supported in communicating with key workers, housing associations, GPs, etc.
This course is suitable for candidates with some understanding of the English language, who can read, write and communicate with others, but would like to develop their skills further. Employability is a core element of the courses and students develop their job searching and interview skills. Candidates also undertake mock interviews with major employers and have the opportunity to be screened for a variety of job roles in key occupational areas. Students can choose either a Reading or Speaking and Listening exam while on the course. The level of the exam will be decided jointly by the student and their teacher.

The course is designed for candidates with a good command of English who would like to get more practice in reading, writing, speaking and listening and develop their skills further. Employability is a core element of the course and students develop their job searching, interview skills and they also update their CVs. Candidates also undertake mock interviews with major employers and have the opportunity to be screened for a variety of job roles in key occupational areas. Students take a Speaking and Listening exam at Level 1 whilst on the course. Students receive excellent pastoral support, with access to qualified Advice and Guidance workers, and are supported in communicating with key workers, housing associations, GPs, etc.
Courses are delivered 2.5 days a week, either Monday to Wednesday or Wednesday to Friday (depending on the level), between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., for 12 weeks. New students join classes approximately every 3 weeks.

Practical activities to develop English and employability skills.
Students are assessed regularly by their teachers. Once they have met their targets, new goals are set in order to maximise their progress on the course. By the end of the course students will take an exam of their choice, at an appropriate level discussed at the start of the course.
