As parts of the research and development for the production, students have researched the play’s key themes, contextualising them for a contemporary audience. Students have also explored expressionism as a style of theatre, researching its origins and methods applying them to their individual characterisation. Bilal Brewster-Wilson who played the role of The Mayor said, "It’s been really fun to break away from the confines of naturalism and to experiment with symbolic extremes of character. Writing and performing to primary school children last year as part of a tour really prepared us well for The Visit." 

Performing Arts is a thriving department at the College, which includes two groups at Level 3 Year 1. Course Leader and Director Darren Luke Mawdsley said, “The Visit is an engaging and fun play to work on. I’m really proud of the work and of the creative risks taken. It’s been challenging directing the same play with two separate casts, but this has provided a wonderful opportunity for peer-assessment and has kept everybody on their toes!” He went on to say, “I must offer my thanks to English teacher Daniel Barnes for his support in rehearsals, I wouldn’t have got through it without him.”
