Students at City of Westminster College celebrate their A Level results

Today, a number of City of Westminster College students are celebrating their A Level results, and progressing onto university or moving to the second year of their A Level courses.

Commenting on this year’s A Level results, Clare Wenley, Assistant Principal of Curriculum, said “The success of our students in securing places on university degree level courses is fantastic to see. I congratulate all our students and the staff here who have worked in such effective partnership to reach their goals.”

But the really important stories of the day are our individual student successes, and the excellent university and career progression options their results will now deliver.

Hesham Hegazy, 18, was thrilled to get the grades needed to study Biomedical Engineering at Hertfordshire University. Gaining an A in Mathematics, B in Physics and B in Biology he said, “I’m really pleased I got the grades I needed to get onto my course, I worked for it so it’s good to see it paid off. Picking up results is a nerve wracking thing, but now I’m really excited to get start at Hertfordshire in a few weeks’ time. I’ve got a real passion for science and particularly biology and engineering which is why I chose the course.”

James Cairney and Dardan Turjaku, both 19 years old, are both moving on to university next month with James gaining a place at Royal Holloway and Dardan studying International Relations at Goldsmiths. “I’ll be studying Mathematics which I chose because it’s a broad subject and I can go into a number of different career fields. I got what I needed to get into university so I’m really happy with my results,” said James. Aspiring Graphic Designer Clive Beckford also achieved the grades needed in Media Studies, Film Studies and Communications and Culture in order to study Marketing and Communications at Brunel University in September.

Seventeen year old Yulia Tskhay picked up her As Level results and is now able to continue onto the second year of her A Level courses. “I got an A in Media Studies, a B in Communications and Culture and a B in English Literature,” said Yulia. “I’m really, really pleased with my results and glad I can continue studying next year.”

Meanwhile, Matthew Hassell received B, C and C grades in Business Studies, English Literature and Psychology and is now getting ready to start an Apprenticeship. “Last year I was disappointed with my results and so I decided that I would work a lot harder to make sure I did as well as I could and I’m really happy with what I’ve achieved,” said Matthew. “Now I’m looking forward to starting my Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering.”
