*These programmes are free for individuals who are unemployed and claiming a benefit (i.e. JSA, ESA, IS). Individuals in receipt of JSA need to contact their work coach to be referred onto this course.

Will the course give me what I want?

Course content

There are 2 pathways:

Pathway one: Sector Base Work Academy (SBWA) in partnership with Land Securities and Mace

  • 2 weeks Construction Training, CSCS card test, CSCS green card and preparation for work experience and employment
  • 1 week additional Tickets including PASMA working at heights, traffic marshalling etc.
  • 2 weeks work experience on a construction site
  • Guaranteed interview

Pathway two: General pathway

 2 weeks Construction Training including:

  • CSCS card test, CSCS green card and preparation for work experience and employment
  • Employability Skills including CV, job search, applying for a job, interview skills, getting job ready
  • Preparation for interviews with employers
  • Site Visits

As part of the programme you will undertake mock interviews with employers and be screened for employment opportunities – with a guaranteed interview with an employer if a job role becomes available, or a reference and exit interview to give you guidance - this will help you with your future job applications and interviews

You will receive Support and mentoring during the programme and as part of the after care service and you will have access to our free recruitment services to support you into employment.

On successful completion of the course, you will receive:

  • Certificate in Construction and Employment Skills
  • Health and Safety in the Construction Environment
  • CSCS Green Card

Functional Skills

Functional skills development are embedded within the course programme.

Is there additional work required by the student?

To successfully complete this course you will be expected to spend 4 hours a week on assignments, project or field trips.

Entry Requirements

What qualifications or skills do I need to show I have before I can enrol?

You need be aged 19 years or over to be eligible for this course. You will also be required to sit an initial assessment and IAG session to determine whether the course is suitable for you. You need to have a Literacy/English level to at least Entry Level 3 standard – this will be determined in the initial assessment. If you do not meet this level, we may suggest you be referred onto a different course.
