This course is suitable for:

Duration and Levels:
2 Years.
AS: 1 Year, leading to A2 in Year 2
Mode: Day  Full time

NB: Daytime programmes of study are available on a full-time basis, or part-time for those in receipt of DSS benefits and needing to satisfy the conditions of availability for work.

What does the AS level include?
You will study how we communicate with each other face to face, in groups and through the media. We will look at how you influence others and are influenced yourself, and how things like your upbringing, your education, your ethnicity and your lifestyle make you the person you are.
 
What do I need to get onto the AS level?
To study 3 AS levels, you need to have 5 GCSEs grades A-C (obtained in one sitting).
To study 4 AS levels, you need to have 6 GCSEs grade A-C (obtained in one sitting).

What type of assessment is used for AS level?
There is one written examination of one hour and 45 minutes, and a coursework portfolio consisting of two pieces of written research and a presentation which can take a variety of forms. In your coursework you will have the opportunity of examining subjects such as popular music, body image, the meaning of shopping and graffiti.

What do I need to get on to the A2 Level?
You will need to achieve a grade D at AS.
 
What does the A2 level include?
You will examine the relationship between individuals and the culture in which they exist in greater depth, and with more focus on theory.

What type of assessment is used for A2 level?
A two hour examination and a 2000 word case study, accompanied by a web-based presentation, on a topic set by the Examining Board.
 
What else can I study?
Other A level subjects which are particularly suitable in combination with this include: English; Social Sciences such as Sociology or Psychology; Government and Politics or Law; Art or ICT.
