Former CWC student Tessa has made an appearance at BBC Two - Astronauts

18/01/2018
Tessa, a former student who studied Close Protection at CWC is now a commercial pilot and has made an appearance at BBC Two - Astronauts: Do You Have What It Takes? Tessa also has a Master’s Degree in Physics with Astrophysics. After being teased at school for saying she wanted to be an astronaut, she was determined not to be put off, and worked hard to be a pilot.

Why did you choose to study the Close Protection course?

I chose this course as I held a door supervision licence and had experience in event and club security and wanted to develop my skill set to increase my employability. My long term goal was to work as a close protection operative to save for my commercial pilots licence.

What made you choose City of Westminster College?

I chose City of Westminster College, because Steve Hayes' reputation proceeds him. He is well known in the close protection security industry, he is extremely professional and knowledgeable. I knew others that had been trained by him on his close protection courses and were doing extremely well in the industry. Learn from the best, become the best!

What did you do once you completed your course, and what are you currently doing?

I went on to having my own security company and being contracted on many high profile close protection jobs. This work allowed me to save to fund my commercial pilot training and I have been working as an airline pilot for the last two years.

Has the college helped you in reaching your goals?

The college helped me go for my dream of being a pilot but giving me the tools and helping me develop my skills so that I was more employable and able to get a job that could help me save towards my big goal.

What are your career aspirations?

I am currently continuing to fly airplanes as a First Officer and aspire to become a Captain. I would like to use my position to encourage more people to follow their dreams and also inspire more people from diverse backgrounds into considering careers in aviation.

Would you recommend City of Westminster College to a friend?

I would recommend the City of Westminster College Close Protection course to anyone in the security industry who wants to get ahead, develop their security skills and learn from the best. This is a great course and will get you ahead in the security industry.

What advice would you give to our current students?

Dream big and work hard towards your goals. Everything is possible if you work hard and believe in yourself. You will face hurdles and sometimes fall, but get up and keep going. It's worth it.
