Governors Profiles

Ian Adams

Ian lives locally off Edgware Road and serves as a Councillor on Westminster City Council, representing Little Venice ward, where Paddington Green Campus is located.  He works in communications and has extensive experience of leading national transformation programmes, including pensions auto-enrolment, technology in schools and digital TV switchover.  Today Ian serves as a Director of the NHS Litigation Authority. 

 

Ian has been a Governor since 2009.  He is a member of the Finance and General Purposes Committee.

 

Gl
enys Arthur

Glenys has been a local resident for 40 years.  She is actively involved in the local community, particularly in relation to housing matters.  She is Chair of the Church St Ward Safer Neighbourhoods Panel (policing and security) and chairs the local Planning and Licensing Group (checking out all applications for new local business/restaurants/building alterations etc.)

 

Glenys’ working life embraced the education, charity and business sectors. For several years she taught English as foreign language (ESOL course). She also has a passion for other languages and is fluent in both French and German, having worked for both German and French import/export businesses in London and abroad.  She also spent seven years in a customer service role with the RNIB.

 

Glenys has been a Governor since 2004.  She is a member of the Quality, Standards and Student Affairs Committee and also serves as Governor representative on the College’s Community Engagement Steering Group. 


 
Afsana Begum-Mirza

Afsana is one of the two Staff Governors (Teaching Staff) and is currently employed as Head of School for Science at the College.  She has worked in post-16 education for more than 7 years and has also worked as a science teacher in both primary and secondary schools, teaching science across the Key Stages in both private and comprehensive schools. Afsana has a degree in Biochemistry and is a qualified teacher.

 

Afsana has been a Governor since 2015.  She is a member of the Quality, Standards and Student Affairs Committee.



Keith Cowell

Keith joined the College as Principal and Chief Executive in 2009.  He is a member of the Finance & General Purposes Committee, Quality, Standards & Student Affairs Committee, Search & Governance Committee and Strategy & Estates Committee.


 

Mary Elliott

Mary is a corporate senior associate with city law firm Fox Williams LLP having previously worked at Allen & Overy LLP in both their London and Paris offices.  Mary focuses on UK and cross-border mergers and acquisitions and capital investments for both publicly listed and private companies

.  

Mary has been a Governor since 2015.  She is a member of the Quality, Standards and Student Affairs Committee and has previously served as a co-opted member of the Finance and General Purposes Committee.

 
Al
ex Fyfe

A qualified accountant and member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Alex has substantial and broad senior financial management experience from her roles as Finance Director/CFO within both listed international company groups and SMEs in the advertising and marketing services sector, as well as in the not-for-profit/charity sector. In addition to the business and technical skills which she brings to the Governing Body, Alex also has voluntary experience of helping adult students with basic skills literacy. 

 

Alex has been a Governor since 2003.  She is Vice Chair of the Governing Body and also serves as Chair of the Finance and General Purposes Committee and member of the Strategy and Estates Committee, Search and Governance Committee and Remuneration Committee. She has also previously been a member of both the Quality, Standards and Student Affairs Committee and Audit Committee.


 
Brenda Goring Moore

Brenda has worked in a range of complex organisations such as the NHS, local authorities, universities, a government research council and in the private sector.  She holds a Masters Degree in Education and is also a Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner and a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health.  She has chaired the Institute of Education Alumni Board and currently serves as Chair of Training Link (London).

 

Brenda is an experienced Governor, having joined in 2000.  She currently serves as Chair of the Audit Committee and member of the Strategy and Estates Committee and Search and Governance Committee.  She is also the Governor with special responsibility for Equality and Diversity and for Health and Safety.  She has previously chaired the Quality, Standards and Student Affairs Committee and served as a member of the Remuneration Committee

Simon
H
aben

Simon’s career has involved working in large and small organisations in both the public and private sector.  His focus has been strategy, operations, policy, change implementation and programme management.  He currently works as Director of Operational Excellence for Royal Mail Group and previously held HRD roles.  Simon has previous experience as a Trustee of a Cambridge based charity. 

 

Simon has been a Governor since 2011.  He is a member of the Finance and General Purposes Committee, Strategy and Estates Committee, Search and Governance Committee and Remuneration C

ommittee.

 

Mic

heal Khanye

Micheal is one of the two Student Governors.  He was appointed in October 2016 and is a member of the Quality, Standards and Student Affairs Committee.


 
Nick Mart
in

Nick has thirty years’ experience of corporate finance advising a wide range of companies from different sectors on corporate finance, fundraising and mergers and acquisitions. Nick has served on a number of boards and governing bodies in executive and non-executive roles, including both FTSE-350 PLC and private company boards and at Cambridge University, the London Ambulance Service and A2Dominion Housing Association. He has helped build a number of successful businesses, in 2008 winning the Queen’s Award for Enterprise. Nick has qualifications in finance, law and property.

 

Nick has been a Governor since 2011 and Chair of the Governing Body since 2013.  He is a member of the Finance and General Purposes Committee and chairs the Strategy and Estates, Search and Governance and Remuneration Committees.


 
Simon
Neville

Simon is Group Treasury Director of Reckitt Benckiser Group plc, a FTSE30 branded consumer goods company, and a Non-Executive Direct of Affinity Sutton, a leading residential social landlord.

 

He brings over 30 years of experience in financial management, and has lived and worked in Hong Kong, Australia and the Middle East.

 

Simon holds an MBA from Kingston Business School and is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and the Association of Corporate Treasurers. He is also a Fellow of the RSA.

 

Simon has been a Governor since 2006.  He is a member of the Audit Committee, Strategy and Estates Committee and Remuneration Committee.

 

Ken
O’Connell

Ken O’Connell is one of the two Staff Governors (Support Staff) and is currently employed as the Quality and Standards Manager at the College, a post he has held for the past ten years. He has worked in post-16 education for more than 30 years and has also worked as a teacher in both primary and secondary schools, in this country and overseas; and as a lecturer, curriculum lead, middle and senior manager in a number of FE colleges.  Ken has also worked in HE, both as a lecturer and as a teacher-trainer.  He is a qualified teacher, and has a Master's degree in applied English linguistics. His particular expertise is in ESOL; English for Academic/Specific and English. Ken O'Connell is an Ofsted Inspector.

 

Ken has been a Governor since 2013.  He is a member of the Finance and General Purposes C

ommittee.
