City of Westminster College BTEC Sports students held a one-day Body in Action exhibition at the College’s Cockpit Theatre, focusing on the science behind sport.
The first-year students – who are studying for their National Diploma in Sport or National Certificate in Sport (Coaching, Development & Fitness) – presented information about anatomy, movement and exercise at the exhibition.
The event was the culmination of a coursework project and students had created colourful posters to illustrate various functions of the body such as breathing and movement. At the exhibition they were then asked to present the information to each other.
The event was designed as part of BTEC assessment and it was a great opportunity for the students to show off both their presentation skills and their theoretical knowledge. The body in action is a key topic for BTEC Sports qualifications, as it provides essential background for careers in fitness and sports coaching.
Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Sciences Adam Goodwin says: “The students did very well and we plan to roll out the idea to Level 3 Sports groups in the future.
“As the College is part of the Get Set Network – which integrates core Olympic values into teaching and culture – this was also a golden opportunity for our students to demonstrate respect for each other’s work, excellence in their own projects and inspiration in presenting information outside a conventional classroom setting.”
