Student performance raises funds for Nelson Mandela Children's Fund
National Diploma Performing Arts year 2 students donated funds to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund (NMCF) UK, presenting a cheque for £208.29 to the charity’s Fundraising Manager Nadia Nicholas. In total the students raised £399.51 for World Aids Day - the remainder being donated to The National Aids Trust.

The students devised the dance performance as part of their National Diploma curriculum. They were asked to evaluate and plan a performance from a business perspective – including aspects such as fundraising. As the performance took place during the same week as World Aids Day, students decided to focus on raising both awareness and funds for HIV/Aids.

Having researched and shortlisted suitable charities, the students then voted for their favourite two. These charities were approached about the dance event at the Cockpit Theatre and offered the opportunity to become involved by supplying information and promotional material to assist in raising the profile of their work.

NMCF UK Fundraising Manager Nadia Nicholas said: “It has been a pleasure to work with the students from City of Westminster College: from their initial enthusiastic ideas, to their amazing dance show, through to receiving a fantastic donation for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund UK.

“It was wonderful to watch the students in ‘Unity and Disorder’ as they used the creative avenue of original dance to express themselves and important social messages, along with fundraising activities.”
