City of Westminster College BTEC National Certificate in Sports student Omotayo (Tayo) Kosoko features on a new website showcasing the job skills required in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The website, www.podiumskillslondon.co.ukis hosted by the Association of Colleges (AoC) and funded by the London Development Agency (LDA). It provides information on in-demand skills and highlights training opportunities that could provide a springboard for work at London 2012, either in a paid or volunteer role.
The website features a range of areas that will be required for a sporting event of this magnitude, including Construction, Sport, Media and Engineering – subjects that are all offered by City of Westminster College. Podium Skills also highlights the fact that such skills will be required after the Games have finished – particularly as there will be major new communities around the site of the London 2012 Olympic Park.
Tayo, 19, is in her final year of the BTEC National Certificate in Sport (Coaching, Development & Fitness) with Sports Coaching, Stadium & Event Industry qualification. City of Westminster College students on this course have the opportunity to work with Arsenal in the Community, gaining valuable coaching skills and experience at the Club to use in their future careers.
Tayo, who already has a place to study for a sports degree at University of Bedfordshire in the autumn, said: “I think it’s really important for people to know how the Games can potentially make an impact on their lives far beyond the summer months of 2012, The website www.podiumskillslondon.co.uk gives people a fantastic opportunity to find out about what skills will be needed to make London 2012 a massive success.”
City of Westminster College has a wide range of other courses that develop skills and knowledge relevant to London 2012, including Personal Best, an LDA-backed training programme, offering a stepping-stone into work and the potential to volunteer at the Games.
