Showcase Exhibition by Students with Learning Disabilities
Students with learning disabilities hosted an exhibition of their photography at Paddington Arts, attracting around 150 people to the event.
Visitors were treated to wall displays, projectionsand an interactive hanging installation of the students’ work. They also watched a live puppet show and enjoyed cakes and sandwiches made by the students.
The event was a celebration of the FOTOme project, which involved students working with ProExposure
professional photo-trainers to document their College lives on camera. Often young people with learning disabilities miss out on taking part in creative activities because they don’t have access to mainstream projects. This project was designed to allow them an avenue for self-expression and teach valuable photography and creative skills.
Lecturer Nicole Proia, who worked with ProExposure to bring the project to the College, said: ‘It’s so fantastic to see the students’ work displayed and enjoyed by such a range of people, and by themselves.
It’s wonderful to see how excited they were and how proud of their work.’
Narjis Iggoute, 22, one of the students who participated in the course, added: ‘I love taking photos
– it’s my favourite lesson.’
