The students, who are on a work placement as part of the Arsenal in the Community Scheme, met six of Arsenal’s first team at Emirates Stadium and posed for pictures on the Gunners’ hallowed turf.
The students were invited to join a group photo with Tomas Rosicky, Johan Djourou, Nicklas Bendtner, Bacary Sagna, Philippe Senderos and Manuel Almunia as a reward for their continuous hard work, high levels of attendance and punctuality since commencing work with Arsenal Football Club last September as trainee coaches.
City of Westminster College offers a BTEC National Certificate in Sport (Coaching, Development & Fitness) with Sports Coaching, Stadium & Event Industry qualification and, through their partnership with Arsenal Football Club, students gain skills and experience by joining Arsenal in staff training and coaching at local schools around the borough of Islington.
The course gives students the grounding they need to progress into the sports industry in a coaching, support or event-organisation capacity, or move on to further study at university.
Arsenal Goalkeeper Manuel Almunia said: “It was fantastic to meet the students at Emirates Stadium today. I know that they have been working hard with Arsenal in the Community staff and coaching well in local schools, so it is great that they can be rewarded in this way.”
