As part of the activities surrounding this year’s Refugee Week (20 June-26 June), young British Red Cross volunteers visited Paddington Green and Queens Park Campuses to meet students and discuss the work that the Red Cross and Red Crescent undertake around the world.
City of Westminster College has a diverse multicultural community of students, with more than 50 first languages spoken across Campuses, and students were invited to discuss the facts and myths surrounding refugees and offer their contributions to a photo project about refugees in London.
Refugee Week celebrates the positive things that refugees bring to the UK and works to alter perceptions by focusing on the many cultural and economic contributions refugees have made to society. This year is the 60th anniversary of the Refugee Convention, a United Nations document that defined the status of refugees and the legal obligations of states to protect people dispossessed because of conflict or persecution.
