Members of Paddington Green Residents’ Association had a specially arranged preview of the new College campus on Paddington Green when they donned safety gear and toured the construction site in the company of contractors McLaren.
The tour took place during one of the regular bi-monthly meetings held between the Residents’ Association and the College. All the members of the Association were impressed with the schmidt hammer lassen-designed campus and gained an insight into both the £103 million development’s sophisticated design and the excellent teaching and learning facilities it will provide.
Members of the Association were particularly impressed with the sophisticated engineering techniques being used to create the light-filled central atrium, describing the building as “amazing” and “a feat of engineering”. One Residents’ Association member added: “London will be very proud of the new City of Westminster College”.
City of Westminster College has close links with Paddington Green Residents’ Association and other stakeholders in the local community, ensuring they are updated on progress and have a forum to express their views. Updates and information are also provided via the College paper (College Courier), College website and through publicity leaflets.
Members of the local community are also welcome to contact the College Lead on the new campus project, Deputy Principal David Pigden (david.pigden@cwc.ac.uk) and can view construction live through the College webcam
City of Westminster College’s new Paddington Green campus represents a major investment in education for London and will enable the College to substantially increase student numbers. Sustainable architecture was core to the design brief and the new building also includes community facilities – notably a café with outdoor terrace, children’s nursery with places for members of the local community and a performance/meeting space. The new campus will open in 2011.
