NVQ AWARDS PRESENTED TO WORK-BASED LEARNERS
City of Westminster College was delighted to celebrate student success by hosting its first National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Awards Ceremony at Paddington Basin Campus. The Awards were presented to 25 learners from companies including British Gas, Greenwich Local Labour and Business and Imperial Hospitals.

The ceremony – the first of its kind at the College - took place in the Boardroom of Paddington Basin Campus in front of representatives from the organisations where the NVQ learners work. College Principal Robin Shreeve, Head of School Pete Sharrocks and NVQ Centre Manager Sharman Szewczyk were among the speakers.

Assessor and Trainer Catherine Struys said: ‘We held this event because we think it is really important to congratulate our learners on completion of their NVQs. These Awards recognise their achievements and boost confidence and morale.’

The NVQ Assessment Centre at the College has been operating for over 20 years offering qualifications in Advice and Guidance, Business Administration, Customer Service, Learning and Development, Management and Assessor and Verifier Awards all at levels 2-4. The Centre currently works with around 100 learners who are at all different stages in their NVQs and come from different industry sectors including charities, companies and health and education providers. The learners are supported by a dedicated team comprising Sharman Szewczyk, Catherine Struys, Lyn Heynen, Donna McKoy, Cynthia Garnett, Jean Edwards and Kate Jervis. The College is proud of its important role in enabling learners to achieve their goals through workplace study.

One of the students, Shindo Deshi, from Greenwich Local Labour and Business (GLLB), said: ‘This qualification is required by my employer in certain roles and obtaining it has enabled me to progress into other employment opportunities within GLLB’.
