Leading street artist Eine (Ben Flynn) is creating a huge artwork on the hoarding surrounding the Paddington Green site where City of Westminster College’s new campus is taking shape.
The hoarding measures 60m in length and 3m in height – and when finished it will be one of the largest temporary artworks ever to appear on London’s streets.
Eine’s trademark is ornate alphabet lettering and, while many of his works have featured single letters, for this project he will be painstakingly spray-painting a phrase that sums up the exciting developments going on behind the hoarding.
The words ‘Making Magnificent Minds’ were chosen by Eine to represent both the College’s ongoing mission and the exciting learning environment inside the cutting-edge schmidt hammer lassen building, which opens in 2011.
As well as creating groundbreaking artwork for Paddington, Eine will be working with the assistance of groups of College students on the Prince’s Trust Team challenge – making this a unique creative and collaborative event. The live art collaboration begins on Wednesday 15 July and will continue over the course of around one week.
David Pigden, Deputy Principal and College Lead on the new campus project, said: “The College chose a fresh approach to creating the hoarding for the new building as a way of highlighting both its innovative design and the exciting learning opportunities we offer.
“The Learner Voice is at the heart of everything we do, and involving students in the creation of ‘Making Magnificent Minds’ reinforces the fact that they are major stakeholders in this fabulous new campus for London.”
Press are welcome to photograph/film the hoarding artwork in progress, however there are preferred dates and times for your visit. Please contact us for details of when Eine and Prince’s Trust Team students will be on site.
