Lord Mayor opens College's Annual Art Exhibition
The Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Carolyn Keen, formally opened City of Westminster College's annual art exhibition on Monday 18 June. Councillor Keen, who is certainly no stranger to the College as she has been a member of the Governing Body for 10 years, said that she was delighted to open the exhibition as it was a showcase for the creativity and talent of the young people of Westminster.
The exhibition was organised by Lecturer in English & Creative Studies, Brian Sayers, and took place in the College's Maida Vale centre. The Lord Mayor joined the Chair of Governors, Jude Boardman, and the Principal, Robin Shreeve for a short presentation to declare the week-long exhibition open.
The opening night was particularly well attended and visitors included students, parents, staff members, College governors and, for the first time, members of the public. All visitors were treated to a colourful and exciting exhibition, which included works created by students on AS and A2 Level arts courses. As an added bonus, visitors had the chance to talk to the artists about the pieces on display and find out more about the inspirations behind each piece. One students' work made quite an impression with a member of the College's Governing Body, who commissioned the artist to create some brand new pieces.
Guests were also given the opportunity to find out more about the College's ambitious plans to redevelop its Paddington Green centre. The latest conceptual designs of the new building, together with a model of what it could look like, were on display in a separate exhibition. The Deputy Principal, David Pigden, was on hand to provide more information about the redevelopment and a number of local residents, students and their parents had their questions about the new building answered. The exhibition on the proposed new building was part of an ongoing programme of communication and consultations.
