Local candidate debates big issues with Government & Politics students
Joanne Cash, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Westminster North, visited the College’s Maida Vale Centre recently to meet a group of A Level students.

Over 20 students studying AS and A2 Level Government & Politics were there to discuss key issues affecting young people, including employment, apprenticeship and education opportunities, during the recession.

In a lively Q&A session, students quizzed the prospective MP on many other issues that they care about, most notably equality of opportunity in education and higher education. Other ‘hot topics’ up for debate included war, immigration and benefits.

Joanne Cash, who attended state school in Northern Ireland before winning a place at Oxford University, said afterwards: "It was a terrific debate, challenging but fun. I was really impressed with the students' detailed knowledge on all sorts of issues.”

The visit was arranged by Deputy Head of School for Humanities Kingsley Jolowicz as part of student enrichment for the A Level group. Other MPs and Parliamentary Candidates, including Labour MP for Regent’s Park & Kensington North Karen Buck, have also been invited to speak to students and hope to visit the College in the near future.
