Lights, camera, action as students perform live at Skills London
City of Westminster College Performing Arts students were among the guest acts to appear live on stage during Skills London at ExCel and were interviewed afterwards by a TV crew.

The 15 Year 1 students performed an original sequence called ‘Spirit of the Games’. The sequence was created by staff and students to mark an Olympic-style sporting challenge last year. It also celebrates the College’s involvement with the Get Set Network, which promotes the Olympic Values and encourages student involvement in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

After their live performance the City of Westminster College students and their Lecturer Emma Bray were interviewed by TV presenter Nigel Clarke (Skillicious and Rat Race Urban Adventure), and footage of their interview was shown live on giant screens at ExCel and via the Skills London website. The students talked about the transferable skills they are developing on the course – including confidence, team skills and working under pressure –and discussed their individual career ambitions.

Emma Bray says: “The students set a really positive example for other young people at the ExCel event by supporting one another and being committed to the project and performance. Their piece was really watchable and enjoyable.”

Skills London brought together 150 major exhibitors – including City of Westminster College - to showcase careers, training and hands-on demonstrations. The event attracted some 40,000 young people, parents/guardians and teachers from across London and the south-east.

The College’s stand did brisk trade, with visitors looking for information about its 250 plus full and part time courses and the new £102m Paddington Green Campus that opens next January.
