City of Westminster College Paddington Green Campus hosted an Employability Skills Workshop for students attended by leading national employers based in the local area. The three-hour workshop, which took place on 7 June, was organised in conjunction with Paddington regeneration organisation Paddington Waterside Partnership (PWP).
The workshop brought together jobseekers and students on Employability Skills courses with representatives from PWP members BBC, Crossrail, Kingfisher, Paddington Central and Visa Europe. Students were able to discuss the application and interview process with business executives in a relaxed environment and have their CVs created and their work/life experiences reviewed. They also participated in mock interviews, receiving constructive feedback afterwards to assist them with their future job search.
City of Westminster College Tutor Sheromie Brewster says: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to fine-tune their CVs and get invaluable advice from senior executives who regularly interview job applicants. Practical workshops, such as this one, are a great way to build confidence and presentation skills and provide a real insight into what employers are looking for when they interview candidates.”
PWP Employment Programme Manager, Kyrsha Haynes says: “As the ninth in the series of these workshops, Paddington employers are stepping up to the mark helping local school leavers, college students and jobseekers get closer to work. This event was the first with City of Westminster College and once again we saw a host of big name companies turn out to volunteer, sparing time from their busy schedules to help local students.
“The feedback from the employee volunteers and students alike was very positive, with students reporting a new sense of direction and inspiration after their mock interviews. We look forward to continuing our work with the College as part of Paddington Waterside Partnership’s corporate community involvement scheme.”
