Making Magnificent Minds, the hoarding artwork created by leading street artist Eine and City of Westminster College Prince’s Trust Team 7 students is now completed.
The 60m x 3m design features on the hoarding surrounding the Paddington Green site where City of Westminster College’s new main campus is being constructed. Completing such a vast project was no small undertaking. In fact, it took Eine and his fourteen volunteer artists five days – and they used around 400 litres of spray paint to create the design.
Believed to be one of the largest temporary artworks ever to appear on London’s streets, the exciting collaborative project took less time than Eine expected thanks to the enthusiastic support and hard work of his volunteers. Eine (Ben Flynn) said: “The students were very quick and all of them wanted to be involved – they are a very good bunch of young people.”
The choice of wording ‘Making Magnificent Minds’ met with the approval of passers-by and residents. Eine said: “I chose this phrase because it reflects what is going on behind the hoarding. I didn’t just want something that said: ‘new campus opening soon’”.
Prince’s Trust Team student Samantha Kyriacou, 17, said: “We learned a lot, not only how to spray paint properly, but also how to work as a team, solve problems and support each other.”
Prince’s Trust Team student Lee Emmanuel, 22, added: “This was a great project and I want to say thank you for the opportunity to be involved. I’d say this brought out the ‘magnificent minds’ in all of us!”
The Making Magnificent Minds artwork will be in place until shortly before the new schmidt hammer lassen-designed Paddington campus opens in 2011. It can be viewed on Paddington Green.
