Fresh Start students participate in music project with London artist
Students on the Fresh Start employability programme at City of Westminster College have had the opportunity to participate in an exciting project with artist Larry Achiampong.

The students attended a series of workshops at local arts centre The Showroom Gallery, where they were introduced to the project and the various sampling and recording techniques involved. The students then created their own sound-based ‘time capsule’ of music, using stories about the local area and themselves.

The students’ work contributes to ‘Sample of me’, an exploration of personal and non-personal expression using music and sound. This forms part of a wider research project into cultural identity and heritage that includes seminars, interviews, talks, performances and screenings during the course of 2011.

Larry Achiampong is a leading London-based artist who has exhibited and performed at Tate Britain and Battersea Arts Centre in London, as well as leading venues in Liverpool, Amsterdam and Berlin. He is a regular contributor to the sample-based audio initiative weeklybeatsessions.com.
