City of Westminster College staff were congratulated for 'going the extra mile' at our annual awards ceremony, held at the Cockpit Theatre in July.
Principal Robin Shreeve and Chair of Governors Jude Boardman presented the Awards, voted for by students and staff. There are five categories, with two winners in each sector.
* Excellence in Teaching and Learning John Gannon is an Award winner for his combination of planning and passion - motivating students to achieve excellent results in adult literacy and making an outstanding contribution to the vocational parts of their course work. Kingsley Jolowicz is recognised for both his commitment to the College and his academic success rate in teaching Government and Politics and History courses at Maida Vale Centre. His enthusiasm and encouragement of his students are matched by his close involvement in the operational activities of the Faculty.
* Excellence in Support of Students Business Studies tutor Priti Kotecha has responded admirably to a challenging set of circumstances within her faculty in the past year, supporting her students and maintaining an excellent level of teaching. She is also praised for taking on extra tutorials to fulfil our commitment to providing the best possible education and training. Olivia Peters receives her Award for her work with 16-18 ESOL Entry students. Tutoring two mixed ability - and sometimes challenging - groups, she works tirelessly to maintain attendance and encourage achievement. In particular, she has shown outstanding support for one young learner who completed her course successfully despite being pregnant.
* Excellence in Promoting Student Diversity Described as 'the glue that holds Queens Park Centre together', Abdul Adewunmi is honoured for his fantastic interpersonal relationships - treating everyone who works, studies or visits with dignity and respect. As the member of staff responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of this Victorian building, he is also congratulated for his consistent enthusiasm and diligence in tackling difficult tasks. Christine Lentzos is recognised for her role in the Disability Support Team. She strives to get the best out of her students, showing a consistently encouraging approach in their academic work and acting as a mentor. Her dedication, support and good humour are reflected in her students' successes.
* Excellence in External Customer Service Pre-course advice and careers guidance for students, in-house training for employers and a close involvement in our new Train to Gain initiative are just some of the achievements that make Cynthia Garnett the recipient of this Award. She is also praised for her skills in teaching, managing and motivating students and for her flexibility and supportiveness. A key part of our interface with the wider community, Dane Murdock is praised for his huge contribution over the past two years to the new training provision in CMS Faculty. His professionalism and determination to meet the demands of business are matched by a desire to offer genuine opportunities for learners and trainees.
* Excellence in Internal Customer Service Nominated not once but twice, Lynne Muir is recognised for her exemplary work and professionalism, as well as her reliability and cheerfulness. Other staff members know they can rely on her co-operation and willingness to go out of her way to help, making her a role model when it comes to delivering great service. As a stalwart of City of Westminster College for more than a decade Maxine Murphy is able to field almost any enquiry at the drop of a hat and still fulfil her own day-to-day role to a consistently excellent standard. Helpful and positive, she always provides excellent customer service - as well as showing warmth and sincerity to everyone she encounters.
