Employability skills workshop
Students get the inside track on career success with executive-led workshop City of Westminster College students had the opportunity to engage with senior executives at a special CV, interview skills and goal setting session in April.

The event was organised by the College’s Employee Engagement Co-ordinator Barry Coleman through our partner organisation Employee Volunteering. It brought together Employability Skills students and members of the Leadership Team at leading financial services group Prudential.

The students, who are improving their skills in order to gain employment or re-enter the workplace, had the chance to get one-to-one advice from professionals who regularly assess candidates for jobs. For the students, it was an opportunity to ask questions and get useful feedback on CVs, as well as tips on succeeding at interview.

The workshop, which took place in one of the conference rooms at Paddington Green Campus, also focused on SMARTI goals (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time-bound and inspiring), and the students were assisted in creating personal action plans for future employment and career progression.

City of Westminster College’s Business Development Unit has an active and developing Employee Engagement programme and works with leading employers who wish to reach out to a more diverse group of students and encourage them to consider the broadest range of career options. This service adds to the College’s existing Careers Advice service, which is available to students and potential students through the drop-in Information and Advice Centre at Paddington Green Campus.
