Electrical installation tutors go back to the classroom
City of Westminster College hosted a one-day teaching conference for electrical installation tutors recently.

The event, led by EAS Education, was an active learning conference and network and was attended by over 30 delegates from 25 education providers in London and South East. Also present was Stephen Plant, Development Manager of National Electrotechnical Training (NET), which is the official awarding body for electrical installation training.

City of Westminster College was chosen as the venue for the conference because it is a leading provider of electrical installation training. It opened its own Achievement Measurement 2 (AM2) Skill Test Centre last summer – the first such centre in a convenient Central London location.

John Blaus of EAS Education, who led the active learning conference, says: “The focus of the day was to explore how active learning can be used to enhance teaching and learning, in line with the move towards the new Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). The AM2 test is a compulsory unit of the new qualifications, so Stephen Plant gave an update on the revised test. Feedback was very positive from the delegates.”

The AM2 measures competence, knowledge and regard for health and safety, and is designed to ensure training satisfies current and future demand for highly-skilled electricians. In addition to facilities for AM2 testing, the College runs the full range of electrical training courses, from NVQ Level 1 through to BTEC HNC and tailored refresher training for professionals already working within the electrical and construction
