City of Westminster College is proud of its track record for excellence in teaching – especially as many of our learners have returned to studying or only recently settled in the UK.
This year the College had a 100 per cent pass rate in almost two thirds of A Level exam subjects, while at GCSE our students achieved above the national average, with an A-C pass rate of 66 per cent. The College achieves particularly strong performances in core sciences, Maths and English.
Among our many success stories are these outstanding current and former students.
Jayan George (known as G) was diagnosed with epilepsy and battled a series of health problems before joining City of Westminster College in 2004 at the age of 19. His remarkable ‘can do’ attitude saw him combining A Level studies with a full-time job as Practice Manager to Lord Darzi at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington. This clinical practice experience – along with his excellent A and AS Level grades – won him a place at Peninsula Medical School, Plymouth where he is now in his second year.
Laura Boggi is the first person in her family to go to university and she’s done so in style, having secured a place at Cambridge to study Chemical Engineering. Laura was studying arts A Levels at school when she was forced to drop out because of a family bereavement. When she joined City of Westminster College she decided to switch her focus to sciences and achieved A grades in Biology, Chemistry and Maths, plus a B in AS Level Economics.
Khulud Omar not only achieved an A grade in A Level Arabic, but was ranked among the top ten nationally with exam board Edexcel – and this despite the fact that she was an evening studies student. Khulud is part way through studying for a BTEC in Business and GCSE English. She wants to go on to study international business at university.
Naima Sharifdahir came to London from Somalia in 2003 and after an unhappy time at school, she signed on for GCSEs at City of Westminster College. She combined studying with bringing up her baby – aged just two months when she started her course. Now the proud possessor of A grades in Maths, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, English Language and English Literature, plus a B in Physics, Naima has embarked on her A Levels and her intention is to study medicine.
