City of Westminster College students took a guided tour of the new Honda Insight when a show model was brought to Paddington Basin campus. The Insight has only just been launched in the UK, so it was an opportunity to see one of the most sophisticated hybrids on the market and learn about practical and commercial applications for cutting-edge technology.
Honda Chiswick Sales Executive Stephen Cox and his colleague from Honda UK Jody Shuttlewood spent five hours demonstrating the car’s features to groups from the College. Around 160 students took the guided tour – getting the chance to see its controls in operation as well as learning more about its hybrid engine.
Motor Vehicle students were joined by ICT & Computing and Sport & Leisure learners. As well focusing on the car’s engineering, the groups were keen to hear about its sophisticated in-car IT and many sustainable design features. ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students also attended a session, using this as an opportunity to improve their comprehension and technical English.
City of Westminster College Teaching Mentor Nigel File said: “This was a classic opportunity to bring learning to life. This is a car that has only just been launched, so students were privileged to get such an in-depth view – and see sustainability and new technology in a commercial product.”
Level 2 ITQ student Kajetan Rykowski said: “It’s a very good car and I was impressed. The Honda team explained how the technology operates and talked us through the fuel economy. This issue is very important right now, not just for cost savings, but for our planet.”
