College celebrates learner achievements at NVQ Awards
City of Westminster College hosted an awards ceremony last Thursday at the Cockpit Theatre to recognise the achievements of learners who have successfully completed National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs).

The awards, which were attended by representatives from City & Guilds (the NVQ awarding body), were introduced by the College’s new Vice Principal for Curriculum Andy Cole.  He explained the importance of NVQs to business and thanked the team who run the College’s City & Guilds-approved NVQ Assessment Centre. British Gas Academy Verification Manager David King was guest speaker and explained the key role NVQs play in developing British Gas staff.

The NVQ Awards ceremony was attended by learners from Asphaleia, Bexley Council Family Information Services, Bircham Dyson Bell, Brent Mental Health Care Trust, Dalgarno, Federation of Master Builders, Generator Hostels, Imperial College, Ministry of Justice, Paddington Academy, Reed Expo, RSB, Southwark College, Thurrock Community College and Westminster Kingsway College.

Also among the learners were members of City of Westminster College staff, including NVQ Assessment Centre Manager Sharman Szewezyk, who was picking up her third NVQ. Andy Cole congratulated Sharman and other staff members for: “practising what we preach by improving workplace skills and competencies”.
