College Governor becomes the new Lord Mayor of Westminster
Congratulations to City of Westminster College Governor, Councillor Carolyn Keen, who has recently been elected as the new Lord Mayor of Westminster.
Carolyn, who has been a governor at the College since 1997, officially took up her role at a Mayor Making ceremony held on Wednesday 16 May 2007.  She will be taking a year out of her role on the College's Governing Body so that she can devote her time to the many responsibilities of the Lord Mayor's role. In her year of office, Carolyn will act as the ceremonial head of the City, the 'first citizen' of Westminster and the Chairman of the Council.
As ceremonial head of the City, the Lord Mayor represent the Council at more than 1000 formal engagements during the year. These will include royal, diplomatic, church, military, community, educational and cultural events - principally within Westminster. As first citizen, the Lord Mayor greets members of the Royal Family on engagements undertaken by the Royals within the City. They customarily accompany them on their visits to organisations and places in Westminster and bid them farewell on their departure.
The Lord Mayor is also the Chairman of the City of Westminster Charitable Trust, which in 2006 raised over £70,000 through a variety of fundraising activities.
