City of Westminster College students proved they have star quality at the annual talent contest, organised by the Student Enrichment Team and held at Paddington Basin Campus.
‘CWC’s Got Talent’ was open to all students and the 15 acts that took to the stage for the live show included dancers, singers, rappers and poets. An enthusiastic and supportive audience of over 100 students and staff were there to cheer them on.
Points were awarded for content, originality and overall performance and the judging panel of Sonia Hill (Lead Tutor, School of Culture, Media and Sport), Beverley Augustine (Learning Facilitator, School of Science, Humanities and Management Studies) and Raffaella Cuccia (Head of Strategic Communications) faced some tough decisions because of the high standard of entrants.
Winner Aaron Spencer wowed the audience with a combination of rap poetry and spectacular street-dance acrobatics. Runner-up Cleo Stewart’s gave impressively confident acapella performances of Lauryn Hill’s Ex-Factor and India.Arie’s Brown Skin.
The audience were also treated to dance performances by special guests who have taken performing further. Student Zanab Bangura combined African and street dance styles, while street dance troupe Myztikal Dance Crew (which includes student Tashana Murray-Williams) demonstrated some of the slick moves that earned them first place in the UK Street Dance Championships and a 7th rating at the world championships in Las Vegas.
Talent show judge Raffaella Cuccia says: “It was a great evening and we were incredibly impressed by the talent and hard work of all the students who made the show such a success. Well done to everyone – and congratulations to our winners Aaron and Cleo.”
