City of Westminster College Chair of Governors awarded MBE
City of Westminster College Chair of Governors Jude Boardman has been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to Further Education in London in HM the Queen’s 2010 Birthday Honours List. Jude joined the College’s Board in 1991 and became Chair in 2000.

The MBE is in recognition of Jude’s tremendous contribution to City of Westminster College. In particular, under her visionary leadership, the College has embarked on a comprehensive programme to transform City of Westminster College’s estate. The most ambitious part of this is the £102m project to build a world-class campus on Paddington Green, designed by award-winning Danish architects Schmidt Hammer Lassen and praised as a flagship for the further education sector. The campus, which opens in January 2011, will boast cutting-edge facilities to support the College’s growing range of vocational and academic programmes and extended community access facilities.

Jude is hugely committed to widening participation in education and has championed increased opportunities for all. She gives particular support to the College’s highly successful Prince’s Trust programmes for disadvantaged young people and maintains close links to the theatre and creative arts provision.

City of Westminster College Principal Keith Cowell says: “We are delighted that Jude has received this well-deserved honour. She plays a vital role in the life of our College and is valued by students, staff and stakeholders alike. She is also a tireless ambassador on our behalf and a passionate advocate of the power of further education to transform lives and opportunities.”

Jude Boardman says: “Our fabulous new Campus will make the College’s long-held dream of creating an inspirational teaching and learning environment into a marvellous reality, thanks to the sustained hard work and support of so many people. So it is a great honour to accept this award on behalf of the College, its staff and its students.”
