The achievements and determination of City of Westminster College NVQ student Randa Jichy were recognised at the Adult Learners’ Week Awards 2008.
Randa is studying for her NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration and also works at the College. She was nominated by NVQ Manager Cynthia Garnett because of her outstanding hard work and motivation.
Cynthia said: “Randa is a great encouragement to all students and it is good to see just how far she has progressed. When she first joined us she told me: ‘I do not have skills’. But then she got on with her course work and completed an NVQ Level 1 that normally takes a year in just six months.”
Randa then moved on to Level 2 – also completing this in six months. Now she is about to complete her NVQ Level 3, which she says has taken slightly longer because of work commitments at the College. A much-valued member of the College Finance team, she combines work and study with looking after her three children aged 18, 15 and 8.
Randa said: “I was very surprised and happy about the Award. I have shown my certificate to everybody and put it on the wall at home because I want my children to know how important it is to get skills. I’m originally from Lebanon and hadn’t worked before I moved to London. I came to College because I wanted to do something for myself and also get the knowledge I need for my future.”
