Adult Learners Week - Gaining qualifications to move on to university
City of Westminster College is celebrating Adult Learners’ Week by profiling students who are succeeding with us. Today we focus on an international student who acquired the qualifications he needed to move on to university in the UK.

Tadas Treigys, 20, originally from Lithuania, studied Business at City of Westminster College for three years and used the qualifications he gained to move on to a degree course at university. Tadas says: “I came to the UK from Lithuania in 2007 and originally joined the Level 2 Business course. I combined this with GCSE English Language – which I studied in the evening – because my tutors recommended this to assist with my progression on to higher level courses.”

Despite his heavy workload, Tadas made excellent progress – including achieving a B grade for the GCSE he had studied in the evening – and this meant he was able to move on to the Diploma in Business course. Tadas worked hard and was rewarded for his efforts by winning a place on an Economics and Management degree course at the University of Leicester, where he began studying last autumn.

Tadas would recommend the College route to other adult learners who want to gain the qualifications to progress. “The tutors were good and also very helpful, so I would describe going back to college as a very pleasant experience for me. And I achieved a Distinction grade for the Diploma, so it was definitely worth the effort!”

City of Westminster College offers a range of qualifications that prepare students to move on to university-level study, including A-levels, Access to Higher Education Diploma and BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma. Intensive (one-year) GCSEs and A-levels are also offered in some core subjects. For more information call 020 7723 8826 or email customer.services@cwc.ac.uk.
