A Helping Hand from the Ministry of Defence
We were delighted to welcome Sir Kevin Tebbit, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, to the College last month. He came to talk to some of our students who had benefited from the help the MoD has given in job search techniques.

Students on Business Administration courses, based in Queens Park Centre, have been receiving expert advice and help from Andy Gilman, Education Outreach Coordinator at the MoD. Andy has been a regular visitor to the College for about four years now, specifically helping our students with completing application forms, writing CVs and assessing their interview skills. Students have also had the opportunity to visit the Ministry of Defence.

Talking directly to students and their tutors, Sir Kevin said “ This is a part of my job that I really enjoy. We don’t do this to try and recruit staff for the MoD, we do this because we think that everyone deserves a chance and the opportunity to succeed. I feel that it’s part of out responsibility to give this opportunity to the community. We just want to help give young people the chance to go out there and get a good job”

Students have really enjoyed both the help provided and the opportunity to see what work is involved in a large organisation. Ryandro Taylor, a 20 year old on an Administration course, really appreciated the help provided. “Andy has been so helpful – showing us different ways of finding employment. The trip was really well organised and I would like to work for a place like the MoD.”
