What does the course include?

This course has been developed to prepare learners for a career in the IT industry; this could mean anything from computer games design to digital forensics. Over the course of 2 years you will learn a range of skills that will equip you with the knowledge and expertise to begin a career in this exciting field. Below is an example of some of the units that you will cover:

  • Unit 1: Business Skills for e-Commerce
  • Unit 2: Computer Systems
  • Unit 3: Employability and Professional Development
  • Unit 14: Web Design
  • Unit 18: Procedural Programming
  • Unit 39: Computer Games Design and Development
  • Unit 49: Digital Forensics
  • Unit 51: Computer Systems Architecture

There will be a balance of practical skills development and knowledge requirements, some of which can be theoretical in nature. Relevant and up-to-date teaching materials will allow learners to apply their learning to actual events and activities within the sector. All materials will be available on the College's Virtual Learning Environment.

Students will be given opportunities to develop skills towards qualifications provided by major technology vendor and trade associations such as Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA and HP.

What do I need to get on to the course?

Entry requirements will be based on learners having already achieved the BTEC Extended National Diploma in ICT or equivalent or two 'A' levels, at least one of which is in a relevant subject.

The interview process

All learners will be given an initial assessment and interview.

Where does it lead?

During the course every effort will be made to ensure that learners are given the opportunity for work experience. The BTEC HND has been designed with career progression in mind and for recognition by professional bodies.
