Will the course give me what I want?

Course content

This level 2 qualification is a learning programme which involves students studying both the theory and practical aspects of the following:

  • Carrying Out Routine Vehicle Maintenance
  • Removing and Replacing: Engine units and components
  • Electrical auxiliary units and components
  • Chassis units and components

Outline of skills and knowledge

Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.

What have students who have taken this course in the past progressed to?

This is a stand alone qualification but also acts as a progression route to the Level 3 qualification. This qualification is accepted by the retail motor industry as a recognised trade qualification.

How will I learn?

Through a combination of theory and practical tasks.

How will I be assessed?

The student’s knowledge is assessed by set practical assessments in a motor vehicle workshop environment, by ‘on-line’ multiple-choice testing and by assessments set by the student’s centre.

How much time should I be expected to spend on assignments, projects, field trips etc

Six to eight hours per week outside of the workshop should be sufficient for completion of all coursework.

What qualifications or skills do I need to show I have before I can enrol?

You will normally need to have an appropriate level 1 Motor Vehicle qualification in order to get on the course.

All our full time further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are free if you are 16-18 years old and meet UK residency requirements. Depending on your circumstances, you may also be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as free school meals and travel.

If you are  enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.
