Course content

Three mandatory units:

  • Working Safely and effectively in Engineering
  • Interpreting & Using Engineering information
  • Mathematics for Engineering technicians

And optional units:

  • Science for Engineering
  • Electronic devices
  • Computer aided drawing techniques
  • Electronic circuit construction
  • PC hardware and software

What have students who have taken this course in the past progressed to?

The course can lead to Level 3 Diplomas in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or to employment.

How will I learn?

Through a combination of theory and practical classes.

How will I be assessed?

Units are assessed through College-devised assignments

How much time should I be expected to spend on assignments, projects, field trips etc

You will probably need to spend about five or six hours outside of College time working on assignments.

What qualifications or skills do I need to show I have before I can enrol?

You will normally need one of the following:

  • A merit level 1 qualification in Engineering
  • Appropriate GCSEs ( five passes at grade D or above) including Science, Mathematics and English
  • In exceptional circumstances appropriate knowledge and/or experience gained in employment

All our full time further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are fully funded (free) if you are 16-18 years old and meet UK residency requirements. Depending on your circumstances, you may also be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as free school meals and travel.
