What does the A-level include?

Biology at AS a mixture of theory and practical work in laboratory over three units in one year. The topics we look at are: Cells, Exchange & Transport, Molecules, Biodiversity, Food & Health and Practical Skills.

The A2 includes: the development of skills learnt at AS over a further three units which are Communication, Homeostasis & Energy, Control, Genomes & Environment and Practical Skills.

How will I be assessed?

We follow the OCR exam board. You will have three practical and two theoretical written examinations at the end of the course. The exam will be under timed conditions.

What qualifications do I need to get onto the A-level?

Apart from the general entry criteria for A-levels, you must have Grade B in GCSE Maths plus either BB in Core/Additional Science or Grade B in GCSE Biology

What else can I study?

Biology works well alongside the sciences, but can also include Psychology or Sociology as another option at A-level. AS/A2-level Chemistry is needed in order to study Biology at University.

Where can this course lead me?

With the right combination of subjects, this course will lead you into a career into sciences and medicine.
