What does the A-level include?

For AS you will study the following units: Core Mathematics C1, Core Mathematics C2 and Statistics S1. C1 & C2 consist of Pure Mathematics involving algebra and functions, equations and inequalities, curve sketching, coordinate geometry, series, calculus, exponential and logarithms, trigonometry and sine and cosine rules.S1 consists of Mathematical models in probability and statistical representation and summary of data, probability, correlation and regression, discrete random variables and the normal distribution.

For A2 you will study further Pure Mathematics modules, C3 & C4 and the Mechanics module M1 consisting of the study of forces and motion of bodies

How will I be assessed?

The Edexcel Mathematics syllabus is studied. For AS you will take three examinations. For A2 you will take a further three examinations.

What do I need to get onto the course?

To study AS you should have at least 6 GCSEs at Grade A* to C. This should include a minimum of grade B in GCSE Mathematics, You will also be required to sit an entrance test in Algebra. In order to study A2 Mathematics you will need to achieve at least a Grade D in your AS Mathematics.

What else can I study?

Other subjects which are particularly suitable in combination with Mathematics include: Chemistry, Economics, Physics, Biology, Psychology, Sociology, though it is common for students to take Mathematics in combination with any other subject.

Students who do particularly well in the first year will have the opportunity to study AS Further Mathematics in the second year.

What will this course lead me?

You will be able to study a vast range of HE courses such as Finance, Economics, Engineering, Science and Medicine to name a few.
