Course content

Areas of study include:

·       Psychological and sociological perspectives

·       Anatomy and physiology

·       Safeguarding

·       Equality, diversity and rights

·       Health and safety

·       Communication

·       Research skills

·       Working in health and social care

·       Personal and professional practice

In addition, students are required to source and complete 175 hours of work placement (100 hours in year 1 and 75 hours in year 2)

·       Higher Education courses within health and social care, which lead onto a wide range of future  careers e.g. Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Lecturer, Teacher, Psychologist,  Counsellor, Physiotherapist

How will I learn? 

A combination of both theory and practical learning, accompanied with 175 hours of work placement.

How will I be assessed?

Continuous ongoing assessment takes place through the course to develop a portfolio of evidence

Types of assessment include:

·       Professional discussion

·       Presentation

·       Written report


How much time should I be expected to spend on assignments, projects, field trips etc

2 – 5 hours per week of independent learning

 3 – 4 hours per work of work placement

What qualifications or skills do I need to show I have before I can enrol?

All GCSE grades obtained

Minimum achievement of 5 GCSE qualifications at grade C or 4, including English and Maths (or Level 2 Functional Skills)


Merit overall, achieved from a full level 2 qualification

You will be required to complete a DBS check in order to undertake work placement

Expected prior knowledge

Fees shown are set against the current year (August 2017 to July 2018) and are subject to change when Government funding changes are announced.

All our full time further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are free if you are 16-18 years old and meet UK residency requirements. Depending on your circumstances, you may also be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as free school meals and travel.

If you are  enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.
